Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Wiskey S.A attached to Sango-Otta Police Division was at his best, bubbling with life yesterday in his office when, his boss and Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ordered him to assemble his team of five, the driver, a constable and two others including an Inspector to go and lay ambush for an armed robbery gang whose strength the DPO was not known.
ASP Wiskey and his team swooped into action and headed to Oju-Ore-Ilogbo road Otta with only three rifles.
At a spot , it was learnt that the team as directed made a road block with used tyres and logs but, while they were doing this, the rampaging robbers in six vehicles arrived at the spot used a Tipper lorry as escort, which did not give the officers any sign. Before the officers could sense any danger, the armed robbers had rained bullets on the ASP standing on the road. The bullets hit him in the fore-head and the two legs. ASP Wiskey died instantly and the robbers escaped.
It is time our government stop wasting the lives of our policemen by providing them with fast vehicles, bullet proof jackets, Walkie-talkie and more sophisticated weapons that can match the rampaging bandits.
