> Robbed 4 Banks!!!
> 2 ASPs, 8 others feared dead!!!
Dare-Devil Armed Robbers numbering fourteen yesterday morning stormed the ancient town of Ilaro, the Headquarters of Egbado South Local Government of Ogun State and raided four banks. The affected banks are Union Bank, Wema Bank, Intercontinental and Skye Banks.
According to an eyewitness, the robbers arrived the banks situated very close to the Police Area Command and Divisional Offices and Local Government Council’s Office in a six vehicles and stationed themselves strategically.
To gain access to the banks, sources in the town informed, the robbers used grenades and assaulted rifles and thereafter taken bank workers, customers hostage and raided the faults, customers and cashiers.
At the end of the movie-like operation, which lasted about one hour, a teenager, whose mother sells food in front of Intercontinental Bank was dropped dead, two others within the banks premises were also feared dead while, six others received various degrees of bullet wounds.
The robbers after the operation escaped with unspecified amount of money through Ilaro-Owode Yewa road. Information however has it that, by the time they reached Owode end, the police had blocked the road and they made detour and headed towards Sango-Otta through Ilogbo where they met a hurriedly made road block by a patrol team from Sango-Otta division and opened fire on the unsuspecting policemen which resulted to the instant death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) S.A Wiskey who headed the team (Read “Why, HowASP Whiskey Died”)
Escaping from Sango-Otta through Papalanto, the robbers reportedly killed about five people before finally escaped through an unidentified road.
ASP, Fedilix Ozeoya attached to Agbara Police Division was also reportedly killed by a gang of armed robbers at Agbara yesterday.
It is time for the bank operators to wake up from their slumber, cooperate with the government and also spend much on security. It is not too much for the bank operators to assist the government by providing Helicopters for Police and CCTV in and around their operation base. There should also be provision of solar energy or Independent Power Plant for effective CCTV as our PHCN is not reliable. If we can do all these, we will save many lives and properties.
